Without naming Pakistan, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said India's neighbours wanted to weaken the country but they are not aware that we can give them a befitting reply.

Without naming Pakistan, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said India's neighbours wanted to weaken the country "but they are not aware that we can give them a befitting reply".

"India's identity in the world is that people of various religions and communities live here in harmony... Our neighbours want to weaken our strength and destroy unity and brotherhood. They are not aware that we can give a befitting reply," Gandhi said addressing a public rally here.

Noting that terrorism was a big challenge before the country, the Congress president, who virtually launched her party's poll campaign in the Dadra, Nagar Haveli Union Territory, said, "We will defeat terrorism."

Gandhi also dwelled on various initiatives taken by the UPA government like the Rs 71,000 crore loan waiver for farmers, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Indo-US civilian nuclear deal and the recent decision to cut diesel, petrol and LPG prices.
