The court, however, also directed the school to reserve 25 per cent seats for children belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged group of society as defined under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Sunil Kurhade, district education officer, Pune zilla parishad, had issued an order to St Mary's School on May 4, directing them to cancel the admission procedure undertaken by the school and follow the admission process as the provisions of RTE Act. Challenging the order, school authorities had filed a writ petition in the High Court.

"The petitioner is permitted to fill up 75 per cent seats on a first come first serve basis. However, the petitioner shall reserve 25 per cent seats for children belonging to weaker section and disadvantaged group of the society as defined under the said act (RTE), 2009," the HC order stated. The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday. u00a0
