Chikpet shop owner was arrested for packing empty branded cartridges with black powder instead of toner, and selling them at 'discount prices'

In a police raid, the owner of an exclusive cartridge retailer shop, selling HP and Canon printer accessories, was caught selling duplicate cartridges of genuine brands.

The raid was conducted following a complaint by a Canon company representative, Satish Kumar, who carried out detailed investigations regarding the duplicate cartridges being circulated in the market under reputed brand names.

A team of police led by Inspector Ramalinge Gowda raided Lihans Corporation at Chickpet and recovered duplicate cartridges worth Rs 20 lakh. The police have also arrested Omprakash, the proprietor of the shop.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that Omprakash was engaged in this skulduggery for the last few years. He'd fill black powder instead of the toners in the genuine cartridges that were empty and sell them off under reputed brand names.

He would make a lot of money by selling the cartridges at throwaway prices, calling them discount rates.
The police have also recovered a refilling machine that was allegedly used to fill black powder into the cartridges.

"They not only hamper the business of the companies using the company logo without permission, but also bring a bad name to the company by selling fake products," said Kumar.
