Due to foggy conditions in northern India many planes are being diverted to the IGI Airport
You might have heard about flights from Delhi airport being diverted to other cities because of foggy conditions. But this season the trend seems to have reversed a bit. For the second time for this season, flights from Jaipur and Lucknow airports were diverted to Delhi.
Five flights were sent to Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday morning, officials said on Wednesday. Earlier on Monday an Air India Muscat-Jaipur flight was diverted to Delhi while three others got delayed.
The planes diverted on Wednesday includes an Indigo Mumbai-Jaipur flight, two Delhi-Lucknow flights of Air India and Kingfisher got delayed by up to three hours, a Sharjah-Jaipur flight of Air Arabia, and a Muscat- Jaipur Oman Air flight.
"It could be due to high humidity level in the area coupled with some other reasons. Temperatures in Delhi have gone down drastically. The sun has not shone for days. So, overall temperature has fallen. In the other areas, the temperatures have gone down but the atmosphere is conducive to fog. There could also be other natural disturbances causing this," said a weatherman in Delhi.
Forecasts have predicted that present trends would continue for some more days. Lucknow shivered at a minimum of 4.6 degrees early Wednesday and warmed up to 16.6, even as thick fog and cloud prevailed. The severe cold wave conditions in Rajasthan Wednesday affected normal life and also business in many cities.

The minimum temperature was 3 to 4 degrees below average in most places in Rajasthan, a weather official said Wednesday. At Delhi airport meanwhile shallow fog greeted commuters on Wednesday morning, which cleared as a chilly wind continued to blow all through the day.
The city saw a minimum of 4.2 degrees and a maximum of 13 degrees Celsius. Official at Delhi airport said, no fog related flight disruptions were reported on Wednesday. The weather office has predicted a similar cold Thursday with morning fog. Met officials at airport said that fog could affect the flight schedule on Thursday morning, and visibility could fall below 200 metres after 9 am. Due to this, flights in the morning schedule might get delayed. "Between six am and 9 am there could be shallow fog," an official said.
