A faulty regulator attached to an LPG gas cylinder risked the life of three members of Shaikh family including a toddler, yesterday morning in Kasba Peth.

Anowra Shaikh was heating water on the gas cylinder, when she noticed flames emerging out of the regulator. Before she knew it, the kitchen was on fire. Her husband Firoz rushed to douse the flames, but burned his hands and legs. The couple's three-year-old son, who was also present in the kitchen, received burn injuries on his face.

The fire officials said it was a case of gas leakage. The incident took place on the fourth floor of Ameya Apartment in the Kasba Peth area. An official said that Shaikh family's neighbour alerted them of the incident. As the Kasba Peth fire brigade reached the spot, the fire was brought under control.
