A 22-year-old woman from Guruwar Peth suffered 90 per cent burns on her body when the gas stove she was cooking on suddenly burst into flames

A 22-year-old woman from Guruwar Peth suffered 90 per cent burns on her body when the gas stove she was cooking on suddenly burst into flames. Tanasil Zehra Sayban Sayyad was brought to the Sassoon hospital around 9.30 pm by her brother. Her brother, Bakhtavar Bashin Hussain Sayyad (26), had just returned home from work around 9 pm when he heard his sister screaming.

"I ran into the kitchen and saw she was engulfed in flames. I doused the flames and brought her to Sassoon immediately. I don't know what to say, but I can't see her like this. I hope the doctors try their level best to save her," said Bakhtavar.

Tanasil was given preliminary treatment at the casualty centre and was then immediately shifted to the burns ward.

An official from the burns ward said on condition of anonymity that chances of the woman surviving were slim, as she had suffered 90 per cent burns.

"Burn cases above 40 per cent do not survive and in this case it is 90 per cent," he said.
