On the first anniversary of 26/11, city couple is on the look out for the train guard who helped them board the Pragati Express at CST before the terror attacks
If it wasn't for the railway guard, who stopped the Pragati Express to accommodate Nitin Gogate and his wife Ketki, they probably would not have lived to tell this tale.
The Pune-based couple who managed to board the train at CST station on that fateful day of November 26 thought of waiting at the station to take the late night train.
"We are grateful that the guard helped us. There are many unsung heroes and we are trying to find him and want to thank him in person," the couple said.
The couple, who run a handmade paper business in Pune, is in touch with the railway authority for tracing and identifying the guard on Pragati Express which left from CST at 4.20 pm on 26/11.
Recalling the incident a year ago, Nitin said that they were in Mumbai to purchase some raw material from Mohammad Ali Road and Abdul Rehman Street.
Ketki had an interview at the office of Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and they were returning with their bags and luggage to CST to board the Pragati Express at 4.20 pm.
"We reached CST quite late and thought we would miss the train. But as the Pragati Express was pulling away, we shouted and the guard in the last compartment helped us," said Nikhil.u00a0
"In fact, we were planning to wait and take another train," said Ketki.
And only when they watched the shocking images of the 26/11 incident, they realised that they had got a second lease of life.
"We pay our tribute to the ones who have lost their lives. We plan to write a book on our narrow escape," they added.
