A former don, now running a newspaper, has warned Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Mutalik not to bother lovers on Valentine's Day.

Sridhar told MiD DAY: "We will kick his men and hand them over to the police." Sridhar is the working president of Karunada Sene, an organisation that promotes the Kannada cause.

Ready for battle
"We have 20,000 members and they are all ready to teach Mutalik a lesson. We have asked other progressive organisations in Mangalore to join us in ensuring Valentine's Day celebrations go off well in Mangalore. The Sri Ram Sene has no standing in Bangalore and will not be able to do anything here," he said.

Sridhar feels that curbing Valentine's Day celebrations was like taking away the freedom of the youth.

"In every age, youth find a way of expressing their freedom. Valentine's Day is such a day. We should see that our children get to celebrate it without fear," he said.

He also condemned cultural policing by the Sri Rama Sene. "Our culture does not ask us to beat women. If parents did not like their daughters going to pubs they would tell them," he said.
