Blogs comment on Delhi HC's stay on an FIR lodged against a married couple for kissing each other in Dwarka metro station

The Delhi high court's stay on an FIR lodged against a married couple allegedly for kissing in public has bloggers commenting on the issue.

Some of the blogs are taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to the issue.

u00a0

Here's a bloggeru00a0 who enacts a mock television discussion where panelists discuss about "public kisses, pub culture and whether the initiative to "ban" talli girls would create a "Talli-ban" culture in India"

Regarding the news that passersby were "feeling bad" seeing a newly married couple in Delhi in an "objectionable position" one panelist has this to say:

u00a0

"Of course people have a right to feel bad. What this couple was doing was just like eating a five-course dinner in front of starving children of Somalia. If that is not a vulgarity, then what is."

u00a0

The attacks on girls in pubs in Mangalore also came up for discussion and one 'panelist' says: "You must understand that pubs are not part of Indian culture. Village women in India never have liquor and will never dance around with men. That happens only in the West. I am glad that these men from Ram Sena really defined what Indian culture truly is by beating, kicking helpless women. I am afraid not many people understand this"

This bloggeru00a0wonders the couple almost "went to jail for kissing his wife." He feels that the public display of affection is taboo in India.

"So that's why couples never kiss in Bollywood movies!" says the blogger, wondering this rigorous standard comes from the culture that produced the Kama Sutra. The blogger concludes that this culture seems to be in desperate need of an "enlightenment movement."

u00a0

"I know it is not right to put Western values (...or the lack thereof, at times...) onto non-Western cultures but when I hear crap like this it is rather hard. They are married. And it is not as if they were having sex right there on the bench! They kissed! I think jail is a bit extreme," says a blunt comment to the above blog post.

u00a0

"How is it anybody's business whether the 'offending' couple is married or engaged or whatever? It simply should not matter. Having said that, I agree with the court's decision that public display of affection is okay," says this blogger.u00a0

Wanna get naughty?

The blogger feels that the fact that the parties are married or in love or not is incidental and not worth our time and that Delhi HC's ruling needs amendment.

"Until then, guys and girls, if you wanna get naughty, keep a mangalsutra in your pocketu2026"

u00a0

This bloggeru00a0feels that this Delhi HC court ruling hopefully will change some things.

u00a0

"This court ruling is not going to become a law and even if it were to become a law common man in India is still going to frown upon something like this," says the blogger.u00a0

u00a0

Blogger Dr A Prabaharan feels that because Indian laws on obscenity are vague, it is natural for the corrupt policemen to randomly pick up people in the pretext of combating crime.

u00a0

"One should not swing to extreme levels while handling funny situation such as arresting kissing couple. Laws are needed to rein in erroneous citizens but not be applied blindly," he says.

u00a0

This bloggeru00a0is congratulating the judiciary in his post named "Three cheers for the judiciary" "Thank you for this before the D-Day Valentine's where we will be witness to more hooliganism...," says the blogger.

u00a0

"Valentines has infact become a sena day more then anything," says one of the comments to the above post.

u00a0

Most of the comments drew a comparison to the Delhi incident to the Mangalore pub attack:

u00a0

"I hope that Delhi is not going to be next Mangalore."

u00a0

"Now this should be repeated in Mangalore also! The Ram terrorists have been threatening more attacks on 14th Feb."
