The term 'Annakut' translates to 'mountain of food', symbolising the abundance and variety of offerings made to the goddess
The ritual signifies the devotion of the people of Mumbai to Goddess Mumba Devi, who is believed to be the presiding deity of Mumbai
Devotees offer a wide variety of food items, including sweets, fruits, grains, vegetables, and other delicacies, to the goddess. This is seen as a symbolic offering of the 'first fruits' or food from the new harvest, to seek the goddess's blessings for prosperity, health, and well-being
The temple priests perform the traditional puja while chanting mantras while offering the food to the goddess. The offerings are then distributed among the devotees
On the day of the Annakut festival, the temple is decorated with flowers, lights, and other decorations
