Woman accused of assaulting 14-year-old boy in Wadala, case registered

Mumbai Police on Friday termed the allegations of refusing to register an FIR, over an alleged act of assault, as baseless and said that the entire incident has been captured on CCTV.

On January 2, a 14-year-old boy, a resident of Bhakti Park in Wadala dashed into a 12-year-old boy while playing in the society premises. The latter complained to his mother about the incident. The mother rushed into the building where the elder boy lives and brought him out.

The father of the elder boy said that the incident happened around 6.30 pm, after which his son went for tuitions. "At 7.39pm, the mother of the child brought him down and scolded him and slapped him several times. Her husband also abused my child." He said that some residents of the society were present at the spot but nobody objected.

He said he took his son to the police station to register a complaint. However, he said, he was asked to show the injury marks. "They (police) denied to register a complaint," he alleged.

However, police has denied the allegations.

Dnyaneshwar Argade, Senior Inspector of Wadala TT police station said told Mid-day that the police immediately took cognizance of the matter and asked the parents to get the medical test of the boy done.

The parents of the boy said that they took the child to Sion Hospital for medical tests but following MARD agitation they couldn't get the tests done.

On 3rd January, the parents took the boy to a private doctor who confirmed that the nerves and eardrums of his ear was "damaged due to slapping". The parents also approached Child Rights Commission who have sought a report from the police. "It was after the commission's intervention, the police acted."

The police registered a Non-cognizable case under IPC section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) 506 (criminal intimidation) on January 3 against the 30-year-old woman.

Argade meanwhile said that on the next day after the medical report, police registered a case against the woman. "Further probe is on."

The Child Rights Protection Commission of Maharashtra has also taken notice of incident and asked police for a detailed report into the incident. The chairperson of the Commission, Sushiben Shah, said that appropriate legal action has been taken against the accused woman in the matter.
