Veteran Marathi actor Ashok Saraf has been honored with the Maharashtra Bhushan Award for the year 2023 by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Chief Minister Eknath Shinde congratulated Ashok Saraf for his significant contribution to the field of arts.
CM Shinde announced the Maharashtra Bhushan Award for the year 2023 in recognition of Ashok Saraf's substantial contribution to the Marathi film and theater industry.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for Ashok Saraf's diverse roles, ranging from comedic to serious, and how he has captivated audiences with his versatile acting, leaving an indelible mark on the audience.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conveyed his congratulations to Ashok Saraf, praising not only his comic timing but also his ability to portray serious and negative characters with equal finesse.
The Chief Minister acknowledged Ashok Saraf's impact on the audience and commended his dedication to the world of entertainment."
In his congratulatory message, Shinde noted that Saraf not only played comedy roles but also gave stellar performances as a villain and in some serious roles.
The 76-year-old actor started his career in Marathi theater before achieving success with hit Marathi films such as "Ashi hi Banva-Banvi" and "Vajeer". He later carved out a niche for himself in the Hindi film and TV industry too.
Meanwhile Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Praful Patel congratulated Saraf for receiving the award.
In a post on X, Patel said: "Congratulations to veteran Marathi actor Ashok Saraf Ji on being selected for the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan award in 2023! Your outstanding contribution to cinema, television and theatre is truly commendable, and this honor is well-deserved. Wishing you continued success and many more accolades in the future."
The Maharashtra Bhushan is the highest civilian award granted annually by the Government of the Maharashtra State in India.
When the Shivsena-BJP alliance assumed power in 1995, they proposed the establishment of this award. The Maharashtra Bhushan was initially presented in 1996 and was originally awarded each year in the fields of Literature, Art, Sport, and Science. Over time, the categories expanded to include Social Work, Journalism, Public Administration, and Health Services. The accolade is given for exceptional accomplishments in the respective fields.
Currently, the award includes a cash prize of â¹25 lakhs, along with a memento and citation. Recipients are chosen by a committee appointed by the Government of Maharashtra.
Prominent persons such as Ratan Tata, Lata Mangeshkar, and Sachin Tendulkar have been honored with this award in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
