Shaina, the black Labrador
A nearly four-year-old Mumbai police dog, Shaina, suddenly collapsed and died on Sunday. According to sources in the police department, Shaina had been unwell for the past few days. However, she was taken to the veterinary hospital only when her health deteriorated.
Shaina vomited blood and collapsed. She was treated by other doctors before she was rushed to the government veterinary hospital," a police personnel aware of the development said on condition of anonymity.
A medical staff attached to the veterinary hospital on condition of anonymity said that prima facie, it looks like that there was a delay in bringing the canine to the hospital. "The post-mortem is pending. The report will bring in more clarity," the staff added.
Shaina, a black Labrador, was a sniffer dog posted at the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch. The canine was trained for six months at Seema Suraksha Bal Centre in Alwar (Border Security Force), Rajasthan, and thereafter was officially commissioned into the ANC in October 2018.
