The Kurar police have booked a man for allegedly throwing a slipper at the judge of the Dindoshi sessions court on Saturday.

According to the Kurar police, Premkumar Jitlal Gupta, 43, appeared before the court to record his statement under Section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before being sentenced by Judge Sameer Jahan Sulaiman Akhtar Ansari in courtroom number 11 on Saturday when the incident took place.

Gupta, who was lodged in the Thane jail since 2017 for raping a seven-year-old girl, had been on trial. On Saturday during the final hearing, Gupta was brought to court from jail.

After the final arguments, the judge asked Gupta to step into the witness box and informed him that the case against him by the public prosecutor had been concluded.

At 3.30 pm, Gupta was on the stand when the judge asked him his thoughts on the case. "Gupta, who had a slipper concealed inside his clothes, removed it and threw it at the judge," said an officer from the Kurar police station.

"All the procedures were followed, including the witness's statement and the matter was kept for judgment order. The court wanted to record Gupta's statement, which is when the incident happened," the officer added. The court documented the entire incident in its Roznama, including Gupta's actions and the judge's response.

"We have booked Gupta under various Indian Penal Code sections and are investigating to find out the motive behind his actions," said Police Inspector Shashikant Jagdale.
