A third high-rise fire was reported in three weeks in the city, this time at the Kanakia building in Kherwadi, Bandra East. Unlike the earlier two incidents, the fire fighting system was in working condition and thus helped stop the fire from spreading, said fire officers.

The fire broke out in the basement of the 20-storey building at 1.41 pm on Thursday. No injuries were reported in the fire, and it was doused after about an hour of fire fighting, at 2.44 pm. Six fire engines and four jumbo tankers were rushed to the spot.

On October 22, a massive fire broke out on the 19th floor of One Avighna Park in Currey Road, killing one person and on November 5, a fire at Hansa Heritage building in Kandivli East killed two senior citizens.

A fire officer who was present at the spot said, "An operational fire fighting system helped the fire brigade in bringing the fire under control relatively faster today. The cause is still under investigation"
