In a tragic turn of events on Sunday evening, a father and son who visited the Killabandar Custom Jetty in Vasai fell into the sea and have been missing since. Locals who witnessed the incident discovered their bike parked at the jetty and informed the police. With the help of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the police were able to use the bike's registration number to identify the missing father and son.
The two were identified as Shailesh Gajanan More, 44, and his son Devendra, 14, who were residents of the Diwanman area in Vasai West. Shailesh was a dentist while Devendra was studying in the 9th standard. The Vasai police have registered a missing complaint and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to the police, the incident took place around 7.30 pm on Sunday. After performing puja at home, Shailesh and Devendra visited Killabandar Custom Jetty
to immerse the puja items in the sea. They travelled to the jetty on their bike and parked it there before proceeding with the ritual. Eyewitnesses informed the police that they saw the father and son using their mobile phone when suddenly Devendra fell into the sea. In an attempt to save him, Shailesh also jumped in and both have been missing since.
Senior inspector Ranjeet Andhale of Vasai police station said, "We have registered an ADR and launched an investigation into the matter. Based on information provided by locals, it seems the father and son were taking a selfie when they fell into the sea. We are conducting a search at sea."
