A fire broke out at an apartment in a four-storey Thane building in the early hours of Sunday, an official said, reported news agency PTI.
A couple and their three children were in the house and they managed to escape unhurt, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
The blaze erupted at 3.57 am in the apartment located on the fourth floor of the Thane building at Kalyan Phata in Diva area, he said, reported PTI.
The fire, suspected to have originated from a cooler, quickly spread to the electrical board, wirings, fridge, washing machine, cupboards, clothes and documents, causing extensive damage to the house, the official said, reported PTI.

Local firemen and the disaster management cell team rushed to the spot after being alerted.
The blaze was extinguished by 4.35 am, the official said, reported PTI.
An investigation was on into the cause of the fire.
In another incident, a 50-year-old man was charred to death as a major fire broke out at a timber market in South Mumbai in the early hours of January 26, a civic official said, reported PTI.
The fire, which started in the 'Lakda Bazar' located in Chor Bazaar locality of Grant Road area around 2 am, was doused after nearly ten hours.
The fire brigade categorised it as 'level four' (major). The deceased, whose body was found during the rescue operation, was identified as Dhanshyam Prajapati, reported PTI.
The flames spread to wood stock, containers of chemicals and electric wiring on the ground and first floors of the market and also damaged adjacent shops and hotels, the official said, reported PTI.
As many as 20 fire engines were deployed to douse the blaze.
Authorities vacated a nearby mall and a high-rise as a precaution, the official said.
Besides the fire brigade, police, local civic ward officials and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) staff were also mobilised for the firefighting operation.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman was killed after a fire erupted in the basement of a six-storey commercial building in Mumbai's Santacruz area on January 25, an official said, reported PTI.
The blaze was doused at 8:45 pm, about an hour after it was covered from all sides, fire brigade officials said later in the evening, reported PTI.
