To draw attention to the shortage of COVID-19 vaccine doses in the Vasai-Viar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC), Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) MLA Kshitij Thakur wrote to Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday.
In the letter, he urged Tope to ensure an adequate supply of Covaxin and Covishield vaccines.
The Nallasopara MLA said that the Maharashtra government gave VVMC's health department 38,900 vaccine doses of Covishield and 4,800 doses of Covaxin. "Of the Covishield doses, only 890 are left which can barely go on for two days. We have only 4,300 doses remaining of Covaxin," stated the letter.
Thakur also said that cases, like in Mumbai, have been on the rise in Vasai taluka as well. Thus, the demand for vaccination among senior citizens and patients with comorbidities is also increasing. "In view of this, I request you to urge the central government for an adequate supply of Coronavirus vaccination doses for the VVMC's health department."
Meanwhile, Tope had recently said during a press conference that the state's COVID-19 vaccine stock will last for another 10 days.
