An allocation of roughly Rs 789 crore for railways, which will take total allocation to Rs 1,578 crore when combined with the Maharashtra government's inputs, is what the city has got in the interim budget for railway projects under various phases of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). The pink book released on Thursday has given a break-up of the detailed allocations for MUTP projects with Rs 100 crore for MUTP2, Rs 300 crore for MUTP3 and Rs 388 crore for MUTP3A, totalling roughly to Rs 789 crore.

"The budget allocation will further give impetus to MUTP works. All contracts for station improvement work of 17 stations have been awarded. The new Panvel-Karjat suburban corridor project work and the quadrupling work between Virar and Dahanu is also going on as per schedule. We have also started work on ground in Kalyan-Badlapur quadrupling project and the Borivali-Virar 5th and 6th lines," said Subhash Chand Gupta, chairman and managing director, MRVC. The MUTP allocation is Rs 312 crore less than that of last year, but top officials said that this was an interim budget and revised estimates are expected in the annual complete budget, which is to be tabled later this year after government formation.
