Four people died while three others got injured when the driver of a speeding high-end car smashed into a road divider and collided head-on with a luxury bus near Kasa bridge in Palghar's Dahanu area during pre-dawn hours on Tuesday on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.
All four deceased were heading in a car from Mumbai to Surat.
"They have been identified as Mohammad Hafeez (36), Ibrahim Dawood (60), Ashia Collector (57) and Ismail Desai (42) and were the resident of Bardoli in Surat," the superintendent of police, Palghar district Balasaheb Patil told mid-day.

"The accident took place at 3:10 am near Kasa bridge, Dahanu. The Skoda, carrying all the above four people, was heading to Gujarat. The driver of the car lost control over the vehicle, smashed into the median cut, came onto the Mumbai-bound lane of Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, and collided head-on with a luxury bus," added Patil.
The impact of the accident was so severe that all four bodies were trapped in the car, which got badly mangled after the accident that also injured three passengers of the luxury bus.
"The injured people are undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Kasa. The process to register an FIR is underway," added Patil.
The relatives of the deceased have been informed.
