Sub-inspector Pravin Kamble from Dindoshi police station told mid-day, "Mahir was found dead in the swimming pool at 1.30 pm on Wednesday. Several members of the society as well as two-three lifeguards were present there at the time."
"As per the CCTV footage, Mahir, along with 10-12 other kids, completed his swimming session at 1 pm, following which his mother sent him to play with the other kids nearby. As his mother's swimming session was set to start next, she was talking to the trainer when Mahir was seen running towards the pool. He was playing with water when he suddenly fell and drowned," he added.
The cop said, "The boy was in the pool for around 3 minutes without anyone realising that he had drowned. Meanwhile, Forum noticed that her son was not there with the other kids and called her husband at home to check and found Mahir had not gone back. Some of the residents then started to look for him, when one of them found the kid floating in the pool. The family rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead on arrival."
"We checked the CCTV footage, which caught the entire incident, and did not find any foul play. We have registered an accidental death report and sent Mahir's body for post mortem which stated he died due to drowning," he added.
Mahesh Shah, uncle of the deceased, told mid-day, "Mahir's family had moved to this society around six months ago. As summer vacation is on, the kids have been going to the swimming pool every day. Nobody had ever thought that such an incident could happen. The family is in shock."
