Dr Jyothi Shetty (33), who lost her legs after being was run over by a train while crossing the tacks near Wadala railway station on Monday morning is now stable doctors say.

"She is now stable and much better. We had already performed a surgery to seal her wounds. She will remain in the ICU for next few days," said Dr Sandhya Kamat, dean of Sion Hospital.

Shetty, a lecturer with BMC's Bhabha Hospital Bandra, was apparently on the way to meet her gynaecologist at Holy Family hospital, Bandra. While in a hurry she decided to cross the tracks instead of using the footover bridge. In the process she did not see an approaching train and was run over.

The people on the platform informed the police. An ambulance reached in 15 minutes and managed to take her to the emergency ward of Sion Hospital.
