"The vests and gents knickers would be marketed under the 'Joy's' brand with 'Jayant' being the umbrella brand," the official said. The launch, at Islampur in Sangli district of western Maharashtra, coincides with Patil's birthday on Monday.

"Our products are basically for the domestic market but we have plans to take them global," he said. Asked if Abraham, who met Patil recently, would be the brand ambassador, the official said the actor would be at the manufacturing facility only for the launch.

The textile park, is named after the Home Minister's father, late Rajarambapu Patil, a leading light in the cooperative movement and politics in western Maharashtra.

The manufacturing facility comprises a co-operative cotton mill, an open end cotton mill, a knit processing unit, a yarn dying unit, a weaving unit and a garment unit. It employs 1500 workers including 400 women and also supplies apparel to some international brands.
