Mumbai building collapse: Six dead in Santacruz building crash

Six people are dead and several others injured in a 7-storey residential building collapse in suburban Vakola in Santacruz (East) on Friday. Many people still feared trapped as rescue operations continue


Mumbai: Six people have died and several others injured after a seven-storey residential building collapsed in suburban Vakola in Santacruz (east) in Mumbai on Friday. According to BMC officials, four persons have been rescued but a few more people are feared trapped in the debris.

Shankarlok building, located in Yashwant Nagar near Grand Hyatt Hotel, came down around 11.30 am following which firefighters and local police rushed to the spot. The injured have been admitted to VN Desai hospital in Santacruz.

According to BMC, only one family resided in the building while others had vacated after civic officials declared the structure to be dangerous for residing.

"The building is under litigation for a long time and many notices were sent to the residents," said a BMC official

Fire officials present at the spot, said, "The rescue operations are on and we have rescued about 4 people so far and according to the residents of this chawl more 7 residents are feared trapped."
