In good news for students of Mumbai University and affiliated colleges who participated in the protest to save trees in Aarey, there will be a re-exam held for all those who could not appear for their papers because they were detained or arrested following the protest.

The decision was taken on Tuesday at Mumbai University's Senate meeting after the Yuva Sena raised the issue. Not only will there be a re-examination, but the university administration will also write to the Governor requesting that steps be taken to withdraw cases (if any) filed against the students due to this protest.

The Metro car shed in Aarey has been a hot topic for a long time with huge citizen support for the movement to stop the authorities from cutting down trees at Aarey. Last month, all supporters held a protest against the government and the students were a large part of it.

While the exact number of students who participated in this protest and also those who missed the exam due to it is not clear, the decision according to the university will provide relief to students.

Vice Chancellor (VC) of Mumbai University, Dr Suhas Pednekar, said, "If any student approaches the administration with this issue he/she shall be allowed a special re-exam after verifying the specific case. Also, the university will write to the Governor of Maharashtra to request to withdraw charges filed against students of Mumbai University and affiliated colleges."

Yuva Sena member on the MU Senate Sheetal Devrukhkar, who brought up the issue, said, "A few students had approached us saying they missed the exams due to the protest. The university can certainly be sympathetic toward them."
