Over 1,000 families in areas facing water scarcity such as Nagpur, Yavatmal and Nanded districts will have the ease of water-wheels, instead of carrying the load of water. Thanks to the efforts of students from Hill Spring School in Tardeo who have raised Rs 30 lakh in 30 days through crowd-funding campaign along with NGO Habitat for Humanity India.
A total of 68-students from class VI to VIII participated in this campaign with the objective of wanting to make a change for their peers in the rural parts of India. The students underwent training where they were made aware of the problems faced by women in transporting water over long distances through presentations and the display of water wheels.
Leveraging the power of social media and messaging platforms, the school students reached out to their family and friends and raised the money. The funds raised will be used to provide a total of 1361 Water Wheels. This will ensure easy access to water for the families and will ease the burden of women and girls.
Neysa Shivdasani, a class VII student said, "Women walk several miles while carrying pots filled with water daily. I took part in the campaign for water wheels so that I could help make a change in their lives. Crowd-funding is a fascinating experience that helps to make a difference in someone's life. I definitely will love to participate in something similar in the future."
