Potholes in Marol that were filled after complaints on the Fixit app

The pothole challenge that kick-started on Friday seems to have received a good response with the BMC recording a tenfold increase in pothole reporting on its app - MyBMC Pothole Fixit. However, the senior civic officials remain tight-lipped about the reward of Rs 500, as promised to the complainants if the reported craters were not fixed within 24 hours.

The challenge, which ends on Thursday, has seen an average 286 potholes reporting per day, as compared to 25 recorded between September 19 - when the app was launched - and October 31. In the 43 days, a total of 1,070 complaint s were reported on the app, while in the past five days, BMC has received as many as 1,430 grievances.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said they have fixed as many as 1,148 potholes until Tuesday.

The BMC has said that on Monday, about 85 potholes were not filled within 24 hours. However, there was no update on the number of craters the civic body was unable to fix with the stipulated time on Tuesday.

There has also been no word from the BMC top brass about the rewards for these unfulfilled grievances. The civic engineers, who were supposed to shell out the cash prize from their own pockets, have also not received any instructions about the reward.

"No one gets any intimation regarding the fine of," said Sainath Rajadhyaksha, executive president of Municipal Engineers' Association. As per the rule, fine would be deducted from concerned engineer's payment if the road comes under the BMC.
