A gym trainer died after falling from a lift shaft in a high-rise in Dadar West. Cops suspect that the door of the lift that Prashant Sawant, 27, was getting into opened without the lift having arrived, leading to the fall. The developer of the building has been booked in the case.
Sawant, a resident on Navi Mumbai, had gone to Dadar on November 2 to visit his girlfriend who lives on the seventh floor of the building on Sayani Road. Police said the woman had been refusing to meet or speak despite Sawant's repeated attempts to speak to her.
Sawant then followed the woman to her residence. When he reached the seventh floor, the woman shut him out. "He was banging on the door and telling her to open the door, but she didn't. Around 10 pm, the noise stopped. But after half-an-hour, Sawant was found on the ground floor inside the lift shaft," said an officer.
Guards in building heard a loud thud and rushed towards the lift. Technicians were called to stop the lift and got Sawant out. He was rushed to Sion Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. "We believe the lift door opened while the lift itelf had not arrived and he fell into the shaft," added another police officer. A case has been registered against the developer of the building.
