The city - sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce
Introducing, Gul Panag the pilot
She is a licensed paraglider and enjoys scuba diving, mountaineering, white-water rafting and biking (she arrived at her wedding on a motorbike, after all).
Now, Gul Panag has earned a few more stripes on her adventurous side. Recently, the actress and aviation geek obtained her Private Pilot License. Since then, she has flooded her social media accounts with photographs jubilantly posing in a pilot uniform near a private jet at a training academy in Madhya Pradesh.
She won us over with a tweet that read, "Love being in uniform (not just because it makes moderately fit look dashing) but because it sorts out the âWhat to wear today' matter!!"
A toast to 60 years
As it turns 60, Gaylord, the iconic Churchgate restaurant brought in its birthday with a party where the Lambas (the owners) along with Noel D'Souza (general manager for 30 years) and octogenarian CEO AN Malhotra (part of the restaurant since inception) regaled guests with tales tinged with nostalgia from the '60s and '70s over Chicken Tikka, Mutton Kebabs and a three-tier cake.
The event also marked the launch of a special Gaylord Wine Label in association with Fratelli. As interesting as the label, featuring the Mumbai skyline, are the wines - a Sangiovese variety with oak notes and a crisp Gran Cuvee Brut (sparkling wine). If you are craving its signature Chicken A La Kiev or keen to try the newly introduced Cooker Da Kukad, today would be a good day to feast here as you can enjoy a 60 per cent offer on lunch and dinner.

Don't shave off the money
So, you're already letting the moustache grow for Movember and couldn't care enough to trim your beard? There's good news. Dineamic, a dynamic pricing app for eating out, is launching a special offer today for all the bearded men of Mumbai.
Mahmoud Akr
The app has tied up with certain city restaurants and all users need to do is download a coupon from the app, show up in all their bearded glory and avail of discounts - the longer the beard, the bigger the discount.
There is even a scale for beard lengths of sorts with parameters like manly, manlier and manliest corresponding to 20, 25 and 30 per cent concessions. On a nobler note, some of the proceeds will be donated to a cancer non-profit.
What's up at Worli?
There's good news and bad news awaiting you at Worli sea face. The good news is that the ghastly mermaid that sat at the junction of Worli Naka and seaface has been laid to rest.
The bad news is that in its place stands something that we don't wish to term public art - two scarlet tetrapods balancing atop each other. Lack of finesse is second nature to us. It's evident in the ill planning surrounding the PM's biggest and most controversial decision, and in the unveiling of the tetrapod traffic island art.
One of them still lies wrapped in bubble paper. Then, across the road on the promenade is another eye sore. A GEC's new campaign finds itself represented in a massive tableaux, cordoned off like its a monument of national importance. Aside from ruining the skyline, it's brazenly hogging public space not meant to plugprivate television channels. Do we care?
Quake memories
The recent earthquake in New Zealand brought back some dark memories for Santacruz couple Rashmi and Medha Bhatia. In March 2011, this diarist had reported how the Bhatias, who were visiting the country then, had a narrow escape when an earthquake struck Christchurch.
Medha Bhatia
Their hotel room was devastated and they were stranded for hours before being rescued. Medha's message then for the survivors was: "Believe in Him... Why do we sceptics keep asking for proof?" That remains unchanged today.
