The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Holy smoke, but no fire
WhatsApp has been in a tizzy with messages of Pope Francis' visit to India (including Mumbai, Goa and Kolkata) in October this year. Nobody knows how or why this fire started, but it is setting phones abuzz.

The message says the Holy See will be in Kolkata because of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, in Goa because of St Francis Xavier's body and Mumbai, well, because it is Mumbai. The Archbishop's House though has said they have no news on the visit.

So, we made a call to the Vatican's Press Office to check if they could confirm or deny the proposed Holy See's visit. "Nothing, we have nothing," said a spokesperson in a strong Italian accent, adding: "Check website."

When told about the social media rumours, he started off on us, "Oh! The press is full of ruuumours. Full of ruuuumours." Time to say: ‘Forgive us, Father, for we know not what we are doing.'

Sea of divinity

A student of architecture, mumbai fan and mid-day reader sent us this picture of a group of qawwals performing at Haji Ali Durgah, Worli, on an evening over the weekend.

Introducing, Djoker the restaurateur
We love his game. We love his humour. Above all, we love his inspirational story, one that is befitting to call him Serbia's biggest sporting icon.

And now, Djokovic, known to be an advocate of a healthy diet, and gluten-free food (read all about it in his book, Serve to Win), has opened a restaurant along with wife, Jelena in Monaco that promotes healthy eating.
A smashing success, for sure.

The importance of being earnest
The maze that is the Mathuradas Mill Compound was the cynosure of all eyes and flashbulbs on Monday morning as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate visited Todi Mill Social.

While young entrepreneurs presented their bright ideas to the royal couple, also present were grizzled honchos Anand Mahindra, Shradha Sharma, Mohandas Pai and Saurabh Srivastava. When Mahindra was called by his first name, he took ‘offence' (of course, in jest). "This is against royal protocol," he said as he curtsied to the crowd who roared in laughter.

"I am a royal and you need to address me correctly." Not to be left behind, café owner Riyaaz Amlani referenced his British connection. "My wife is a UK citizen and I am an Indian, and our son is a perfect example of Indo-British collaboration," he joked.

The title was conceived in response to the Delhi gang-rape and public activism for women's safety that followed. The anthology features over 250 poems by writers from over two dozen countries. The book has been edited by Charles Adès Fishman and Smita Sahay. Pic/Nimesh Dave

The Bolshoi revolution
Think grandeur and opulence, and the stylish JJ Valaya comes to mind. Now, the Dilliwallah is all set to give Mumbai's fashionistas a reason to smile with his Spring Summer preview at Khar fashion space, Jhelum.

Titled Bolshoi Bazaar, the line finds inspiration from Russia - from the ikats of its nomads, the onion domes of Moscow, Russian kerchiefs and pre-rebellion architecture.

"The Bolshoi Bazaar collection carries a grandeur, intrigue and drama that come together in varied silhouettes that embrace the spirit of India in a cool newness. I'm happy to launch this collection in Mumbai," says Valaya.

One can expect designs in crepes, georgettes as well as techniques from digital printing, applique and embroidery. It's all there for the taking!
