Water continued to accumulate on Dr Ambedkar Road in Dadar on Wednesday as the BMC undertook the work to replace a water pipeline at the spot.

According to civic officials, there was a complaint of leakage in the pipeline for a few days and a burst was identified in the area's water pipeline on Monday night. But because the road is made of concrete and a Mahanagar Gas pipeline is nearby, the BMC had to be extra careful.

Repair work went on all through Tuesday after which a decision was taken to replace the pipeline instead of trying to repair it.

"It had to be dewatered completely before we could replace it. The reason we didn't do it on Tuesday night is that there would have been no water supply to the area on Wednesday morning. That's why work was undertaken after the routine water supply in the morning. Now work is underway and will be completed by evening," said a civic official.

However, because of dewatering, large puddles of water have formed on the Sion-bound side and one lane has been shut for traffic. The traffic police is monitoring the situation.
