Despite 14 days since the incident, the local police have not registered an FIR in the case, while the victim is battling for life. The family also alleged that the police wasted almost two hours before admitting the tutor to hospital.

The victim has been identified as Meherdad Irani, a resident of Grant Road (East). Meherdad has completed his LLB from K C Law College, and also has MSc and PhD certifications, along with an MBA from the UK.

His brother, advocate Kaikhushroo, told mid-day, "My brother has been taking private tuitions for the past 18 years. My mother and sisters are completely dependent on him." According to Kaikhushroo, on June 18, Meherdad had gone for private tuitions on his four-wheeler scooter, a vehicle designed for the physically challenged.

The brother said that Meherdad had last spoken to Kaikhushroo's wife, Monalisa. She had asked Meherdad to bring craft paper for her kids. In response to his mother Puran's query, Meherdad had said that he would be back in 15 minutes.

Kaikhushroo said, "At 5.50 pm in the evening, we got the shock of our life when we got a call from the cops saying that my brother Meherdad had been found unconscious near Siddhivinayak temple. They were taking him to KEM Hospital; my mother pleaded with them to take him to the Parsi General Hospital at Kemps Corner.

They reached the hospital an hour later." Doctors said that due to an internal head injury, there was blood clotting, which caused haemorrhage. To make the situation worse, Meherdad may have lost his memory, said the doctors, as he is not being able to identify family members.

Kaikhushroo said, "It is very saddening that such an intelligent, educated, and brilliant person is suffering like this. If locals and cops had helped him and taken him to the nearest hospital at the earliest, the situation might have been different."

He alleged, "We don't know anything… how did the accident happen, or what caused it or whether it was an accident or not. The cops are not even checking the CCTV cameras in the area; that, too, they are asking me to check.

It must've been an accident, as the plates that were placed last year in my brother's left arm after an accident (a fall at home) are broken. My brother is still battling for life and is in a very serious condition."

Cop speak
Senior Inspector Nishikant Patil of Dadar police station said, "Prima facie, it does not look like any accident, it has happened naturally. We are continuously monitoring the case.

We are calling Meherdad's brother every day and asking him to register an FIR if they (the family) have a doubt, but he is not coming forward to file it. If they have doubts, we will properly investigate the matter. My officer has even visited the hospital several times."
