He had gone there with his parents for a pooja; he accidentally fell into the tank, which was kept open at the Bhiwandi building
A four-year-old boy from Ulhasnagar drowned in the water tank of a residential building at Kongaon, Bhiwandi on Sunday. He had gone there to attend a pooja along with his parents.
The police said the deceased was identified as Sachin Krishna Bansode, a resident of Ulhasnagar. The incident took place on Sunday at around 4pm when the boy was playing, and accidentally fell into the open water tank of the building.
The boy had gone with his parents to the Shri Ganesh Kripa Apartment. "The family had gone to attend a Satyanarayan pooja at the residence of Nilesh Jadhav, who is a close friend of the boy's father. Jadhav got married on February 15 and he arranged a pooja and invited his friends and relatives on Sunday. The parents were having lunch on the terrace of the building, while the kid was playing downstairs," said Sanjay Bidgar, Police Sub Inspector, Kongaon police station.
A 10-year-old alerted the parents and other residents of the building, who then started to search for him. "The boy was retrieved from the water tank and shifted to a private hospital. The doctors declared him dead stating the reason as drowning. The parents are not aware when he fell into the water tank. They feel that if they had found him earlier he could have been saved," added Bidgar.
The Kongaon police have registered an accidental death case and are investigating the matter. It was found that safety measures were not followed by the builder, who recently finished the construction. But the police say that the parents don't want to complain against anyone.
Avinash Vishwakarma, who owns a flat in the building, said, "The builder has not followed precautionary measures in the building. The police should register a case against him, as a four-year-old is dead because of him."
