Mock fire drill conducted on Mumbai Metro

Fire mock drill successfully conducted at Airport Road metro station on the Versova-Andheri Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor.


The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) along with Mumbai Fire Brigade and Mumbai Police jointly conducted a fire mock drill successfully at Airport Road metro station on the Versova-Andheri Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor, which is expected to become operational soon.

The purpose of the mock drill was to assess the preparedness of the three agencies in case of an emergency. The mock drill was conducted at Airport Road Metro Station at 8:30 am on Friday with the metro staff acting as mock 'passengers'.

The drill is one of the last before the metro is commissioned is for safe evacuation of the passengers from the train.

The train was stopped at 8:30 am near Airport Road Metro Station and an announcment was made about the fire in the third coach of the train. The Operational Control Centre (OCC) at Metro Depot swung into action and closed down the line. The Station Controller was informed and was guided to take the necessary actions as per prescribed guideline.

The 'passengers' were then safely evacuated to the station pathway.

An emergency call to the Fire Department was made and the Fire Brigade arrived within the response time and used a snorkel lift unit from the road level to rescue the 'passengers' from the train.

The six-minute drill involving hardly caused any disruption to any public facility or traffic at the road level.

The drill is the last one conducted as part of a joint Central Disaster Management Plan, prepared through MCGM to take care of passengers and property in situation of eventuality.

MMOPL Spokesperson saod , " As part of our endeavor to stay prepared for all types of eventualities, we successfully conducted the Fire Mock Drill at Airport Road Metro Station; the Fire drill commenced at 8:30and was closed at 8:36 am; the drill was participated by Mumbai fire Brigade, State police, MMOPL Operations staff and MMOPL security staff. This was also part of the Disaster Management Plan for the metro."
