The Thane police claim to have busted an inter-state drug racket and arrested three people along with the high quality Mephedrone (MD or Meow-Meow) drugs worth Rs 16.6lakhs were caught. One of the arrested accused is a hardened criminal from Nashik and was wanted in a MCOCA (Organized crime syndicate) case. The seized drug was brought from Madhya Pradesh's Indore region, the police said.
According to the police, recently acting on the reliable information the officials of the unit-5 of Thane police crime branch arrested Akram Aslam Khan, 30, a resident of Ganjmal, Nashik, from Nitin Chowk area of Thane. On search Mephedrone drugs worth Rs 16.44lakhs was found in his possession.
He was taken into custody and arrested in NDPS Case. Probe revealed that Khan has 18 criminal cases on his head including a case of MCOCA, in Nashik, Mumbai and Thane. "During interrogation Khan revealed names of two people Raees Shaikh and Ajay Madhvan from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who supplied him the drugs," said a Thane police crime branch official.
A police team then went to MP and arrested Shaikh and Madhavan from Indore. Shaikh told police that Madhvan supplied him the drugs. "From the interrogation of three we prima facie suspect that it's a big inter-state drugs racket. Names of more people have come in the investigation and efforts are being taken to locate them," said a senior police officer.
