After 64-year-old Mohan Sonawane from Virar died on January 14, his family members claimed that he committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. However, post-mortem results have confirmed it to be a case of murder. Further, investigation revealed that the family lied to the cops. According to the police, Sonawane was residing at Siddheshwar Apartment, Narangi, Virar east, along with his wife, son and daughter. On the day of the incident, when his son informed the Virar cops that his father killed himself, a team immediately reached the spot and started investigating the case.
Police sources said that Sonawane's body was found lying on the floor and a nylon rope was hanging from the ceiling fan. They also found injury marks on his neck and head, following which the body was sent for autopsy and an accidental death report was registered in the matter. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police officer said, "We conducted the post-mortem twice to find out the exact cause of death. As the reports revealed that it's not a suicide, a murder case has been registered against unknown persons. Some insider might be involved in the incident. The case is being probed from all possible angles."
