The 125th birth anniversary of Dalit icon and architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar on Thursday was observed with traditional fervour across Mumbai.
In Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Chaitya Bhoomi, the memorial of Ambedkar, and offered floral tributes on the occasion. Fadnavis announced Rs 7 crore for building 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan' and ensured government help to complete the work by 2018.
Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athawale also paid homage to Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar while Congress party members held a rally to commemorate the occasion. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Ashok Chavan, Manikrao Thakre, Sanjay Nirupam and other leaders were present.
