A 74-year-old woman died after being electrocuted by a live wire during the Ganpati visarjan at Nalasopara

A 74-year-old woman died after being electrocuted by a live wire during the Ganpati visarjan at Nalasopara. Police stated that during visarjan, the woman accidentally contact with a live wire hanging on the road, leading to her death.

The 74-year-old victim, identified as Jyanti Devrao Mhatre, was a resident of Gaiwadi area near Devi Wasi in Nalasopara. Following the incident, the police filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Rakesh Mhatre, a relative of the deceased, expressed, "On Friday evening, my sister-in-law Jayanti was on the first floor watching the Ganpati immersion nearby. During the Visarjan, she inadvertently touched a loose wire. Additionally, two children also accidentally came into contact with the wire, resulting in them falling. The locals swiftly intervened and saved the children. The locals also attempted to rescue my sister-in-law and rushed her to the hospital. She was declared dead at the hospital."

Mhatre emphasised, "The power distribution company is responsible for this incident and we urge the police to take appropriate action against the individuals responsible. We have suffered a grievous loss within our family due to this incident."
