The body of a 22-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in Bhiwandi.
According to the official, they suspect that the man was killed following a family dispute.
On Wednesday, some locals alerted the police after spotting the body hanging from a tree near Bhiwandi Road railway station.
"There were injuries on the legs of the deceased. A tattoo with the word 'Saddam' was found on one of his arms," said Narpoli police station's senior inspector Bharat Kamat.

"The body has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem," the police official added.
According to the official, a case has been registered against three persons under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence), the police said, adding that a search was on for the accused.
Meanwhile, in Bhiwandi, an electricity transformer caught fire on Thursday morning.
"No person was injured in the blaze which erupted at around 5.30 am in the transformer located in Subhash Nagar area," said Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation's disaster management officer Sakib Kharbe.
"After being alerted, local firemen rushed to the spot and put out the blaze in about an hour," he said.
"The transformer was completely destroyed," the official said.
The cause of the fire was not yet known.
