I have been receiving calls from an unknown man, who threatened me to end relations with Sayyed and not marry him," said the 25-year-old fiancée of prime accused Faqrudin Sayyed, who was arrested by the Shahu Nagar police along with his friend Gopal Mooponr after the cops allegedly recovered 485 gms of mephedrone and a country-made gun from his Matunga house. The woman revealed that her entire family had been getting threat calls from the man, who according to them, is a drug peddler in Dharavi and has many criminal cases against him.

Following mid-day's report on November 29, families of both the accused met the DCP of Zone-5, who assured to look into the matter. Post the raid at the main accused's house, the Shahu Nagar police recovered the CCTV camera DVR installed outside Aiyyappa temple near his residence. However, the cops are now claiming that the CCTV cameras have not been working since November 14. The family and friends of both the accused have started a signature campaign and collected more than 300 signatures, which they will submit to the CP's office.

Speaking to mid-day Sayyed's fiance said, "Sayyed and I were in the same school and he proposed to me five years ago. His parents died while he was in school and his friends helped him complete his studies. He has a successful career. We decided to get married in February next year with the permission of our families. However, I started getting blank calls on my mobile phone. Even my brother and mother were getting similar calls."

‘Calls continued'

"I had informed Sayyed about the calls. Later someone started calling and telling me that he wished to marry me. When I refused the proposal, he started threatening me and said that Sayyed would be in jail if I did not agree to do as he wished. Later I found that a man from our area was making the calls through the internet. He told me many times that he was talking from Oman, but it was not true. A couple of months ago, he forcibly pushed me into a taxi and took me to a garden nearby, where he threatened me to break all ties with Sayyed. This man is a criminal and has more than six cases against him. His father also has a criminal background. People know them as drug dealers in Dharavi. My family even approached the man's father and told him that we would register an FIR but they asked us not to do it. We thought this was the end of it but the calls continued," she added.

"I am sure this man is behind planting the drugs and gun at Sayyed's house, but we don't have evidence. I am still waiting for Sayyed to get released on bail so that we can marry each other." The woman's mother told mid-day, "I was receiving calls from a person who told me that my daughter was already married to this drug peddler and that she visited his house daily to cook food. It was impossible to believe this. Later I started getting calls from a woman who told me that Sayyed is not a good boy and that my daughter should not marry him. She abused me over call when I asked her not to call again. We had thought of informing the cops but we got to know that the father-son duo had good contacts in the police. We were helpless." Adding to this, the woman's brother said, "I was fed up with the calls. Sometimes the calls used to come on Sayyed's name as well."

‘Both of them are innocent'

The woman further said, "On the day of the police raid, Sayyed called me and said that he would go to Kerala the following day to meet his uncle regarding our wedding. That day he was supposed to go out shopping, but when I called him 30 minutes later, he rejected my calls. Later his phone was switched off. My entire family supports Sayyed and his friend Mooponr. Both of them are innocent and should get justice. It's impossible to believe that Sayyed is a drug supplier."

"Strangely, following Sayyed's arrest, we stopped receiving the calls. We strongly suspect that the caller is involved in the crime. The cops should interrogate him," she added. When contacted, Zone-5 DCP Pranay Ashok said, "We don't believe the officers framed the accused. They were caught red-handed with drugs, gun and bullet at their residence during the raid. We are checking all the facts. We also met the families of both the accused and have assured them that the investigation will be done properly. Our teams are working on the case."
