A man, who was released from jail this week, has been arrested again for killing his mother-in-law. The accused, identified as Iqbal Abbas Shaikh, 42, has a total of 28 cases registered against him at various police stations across Mumbai.
After his release, Shaikh allegedly went to meet his wife at his mother-in-law Shamal Shyam Shigam's home. However, when he went there, Shigam, 61, told him that her daughter had married again, and was pregnant. In a fit of rage, Shaikh attacked Shamal with a shovel and knife, killing her, said a police official, investigating the case. Her blood-stained body was found on Thursday near Pitlewadi.
While going through CCTV footage from the area, Vile Parle Police API Shiv Bhosale found that Shaikh, who lives in Vile Parle, had come to meet her. Further investigations revealed that Shaikh was around the spot, when the murder took place. On interrogating Shaikh's friends, the police learnt that he was in Pune. He was taken into custody from Pune, and during cross-examination he confessed to his crime.
Shaikh had married Shigam's daughter in 2011, and has two children with her. Of the 28 cases against him, he has served sentences in eight cases. Incidentally, he was released from Pune's Yerawada Jail on Wednesday, a day before the crime.
