Maharashtra: Four booked for assaulting woman staffer at Navi Mumbai hospital

An offence has been registered against four employees of a hospital in Navi Mumbai for allegedly assaulting a woman contract worker at the facility, police said on Monday.

The police on August 25 registered a case under sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code for the incident that took place at a hospital in Nerul in March, an official said.

The complainant has alleged that on March 25, one of the accused persons, who is a supervisor, dragged her by her uniform and brought her down the stairs while accusing her of refusing to take orders from him, he said.

The other three accused who were present at the scene allegedly threatened the woman, the official said.

The police have not made any arrests in the case, and further probe is underway, he said.

Earlier in the day, Police arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in the toilet of a mall at Vashi in Navi Mumbai, an official said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when the boy visited the mall with his friends, he said.

The 25-year-old accused, who is an auto-rickshaw driver, took the boy to a toilet located on the mall's ground fall where he sexually assaulted him, inspector Sanjay Nale from Vashi police station said.

The boy later managed to escape and informed his parents about the incident.

His family approached the police with a complaint and the accused was arrested, the official said.

The accused was booked under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.

Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai police registered a case against a man for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl repeatedly following which she became pregnant, an official said on Monday.

The police said the accused, from Kamothe in Navi Mumbai, and the victim, resident of Turbhe area, got in touch with each other through social media platform Instagram in January 2021 and had an affair.

The accused allegedly raped the girl repeatedly at his residence following which she became pregnant in May 2023, an official from Kamothe police station said.

The man's mother was aware of everything, but she did not object to the offence, he said.

Based on a complaint by the victim, the police on Sunday registered a case against the man and his mother under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, the official said. (Agencies)
