The incident came into light around 9 am on Friday when Ponda's body, lying in a pool of blood, was found by his maid.
The maid alerted an auto driver standing near the building and he called the local Dahanu police, who rushed to the spot and after conducting the panchanama, sent the dead body to the civil hospital for autopsy.
Probe revealed that Ponda lived alone and was working from home. Preliminary investigation indicates that the murder was done with the intention of robbery, said a Dahanu police official.
A special team has been formed under the supervision of senior inspector of Dahanu police station. "We are looking into all possible angles and inspecting the CCTV footages of the area," said SP Dattatry Shinde of Palghar district.
