Suspect Khush M Shaikh had been digging for two nights
A patrolling team from V P Road police station foiled a potential burglary at a jewellery shop in Girgaon after they followed a sound and arrested a 28-year-old suspect on the night of December 10. The man was allegedly trying to enter the shop and had nearly dug a hole in a wall, said the police.
The team was out on the street around 1 am when they made the interception. "The team was near Nagindas building when they heard some construction noise like someone hammering on a wall. The cops got suspicious and tried to find out its source," said Hemant Bawdhankar, senior inspector of the police station.
The team led by API Shinde and PSI Bele took a round of the area and entered the building lane. "They found a man hammering on the back wall of a jewellery showroom. Seeing the police, he started running. The team caught him and brought him to the same location. It was found that he was digging the wall to enter the jewellery showroom of Motilal and Sons," said Bawdhankar.
At the police station, the man, identified as Khush Mohammed Shaikh revealed that he had been trying to drill a hole in the wall for the past two days. "He had dug around one square foot of the wall and could have entered easily after digging a few more inches," added the officer.
