Accused was caught when a passenger saw him dump a bag into the Hooghly River
Kolkata: A man in West Bengal's Hooghly district was arrested on Saturday when he was trying to dispose off the bodies of a woman and a minor girl suspected to be killed by him.
The accused Samaresh Sarkar, was caught with three trolley bags inside which the dismembered bodies of a woman and a minor girl were found. He was caught by fellow passengers after he threw the bags into the river while riding a ferry.
"The passengers of the ferry grew suspicious after Sarkar threw the bags into the river and detained him. We found dismembered bodies of a woman and a six-year-old girl," Superintendent of Police (Hooghly) Pravin Tripathi said.
"Sarkar is employed with a nationalised bank in Durgapur (Burdwan district). He boarded a ferry this morning with a view to dispose off the bodies. Prima facie it appears he killed the woman and the child," added Tripathi.
Police are yet to ascertain Sarkar's relationship with the victims.
