CBI has arrested a Superintendent of Customs posted at Bangalore International Airport for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from an exporter
New Delhi: CBI has arrested a Superintendent of Customs posted at Bangalore International Airport for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from an exporter.
According to a complaint, the Customs official had sought bribe for clearing a cargo of silk scarfs meant for export to a firm in Malaysia. A CBI spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered against the Superintendent of Customs.
"CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Searches were conducted at residential and official premises of the accused person," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said here today. She said the accused was produced before a special judge for CBI cases in Bangalore and remanded to three days' police custody.
