Monica Gellar's practical clothing choices are a natural extension of her no-nonsense attitude. "Monica is the queen of basics and often reaches for basic tees, shirts and sweaters, paired with slim-fitted jeans, plain trousers and overalls. Her style is the easiest to recreate," suggests stylist Mitali Ambekar. To replicate her wardrobe, all you really need is a well-fitting pair of jeans, a classic white shirt (which you can knot in the front at the end of the day) and a few tops in solid colours. However, that doesn't mean that Monica's wardrobe is all work and no play, says stylist Disha Selarka: "Monica is partial to red and for night-outs, she often wears slinky dresses in this colour. Even when she's dressed down, she adds a pop of the colour to lend some cheer to neutral -toned outfits." Her hair and make-up are minimal and fuss-free. However, she does mix up her jewellery, often layering necklaces or sporting large statement rings.
Phoebe literally wears her personality on her sleeve. Like her, her outfits are quirky and she often layers pieces in different materials including velvet, denim, knits or leather, says Ambekar. Her look is decidedly bohemian-chic and her wardrobe is an amalgamation of oversized items, flowing dresses, peasant tops, coats with dizzy prints, bright colours, embellishments and textures, and chunky jewellery. "What really brings her looks together are her hairstyles, headgear and jewellery, which she often experiments with," she adds. Selarka (right) maintains that when you're dressing like Phoebe, experiment with boxier and free-flowing fits instead of choosing very structured silhouettes. For those vintage elements, she also recommends thrifting instead of purchasing from fast fashion brands.
Played by Jennifer Aniston, Rachel Green's fashion was so influential that her signature haircut came to be known as âThe Rachel'. Her wardrobe was posh and trendy while still being relatable, says Ambekar. "Rachel wore some of the coolest '90s trends with great ease. Some of her wardrobe staples include day-to-night slip dresses, fitted skirts, turtlenecks, cropped sweaters, tank tops, lounge pants, fitted jeans and knee-high boots," she recalls. Natasha Nyss, a make-up artist, adds that Rachel elevated classic pieces with innovative pairings, which made her looks stand out. For instance, instead of stiletto heels, she would pair a little black dress with knee-high boots. Greeshma Thampi, an image consultant, also points to the preppy elements that Rachel was partial to, including pleated tartan skirts, checks, turtlenecks, shift dresses and wearing tights under skirts, which add an air of sophistication.
