With a name like Arctic, you don't immediately associate the new eatery at Kalyani Nagar with seafood or barbecues. But, that's exactly what this Arctic is all about. It is run by the same people who were behind the wholesome vegetarian thali of Mehek and who have now transformed themselves into fish-loving people from the pole.
In spite of their outdoor barbecue, Arctic doesn't really have much of an ambience to speak about. There is a basic air-conditioned indoor area and an even more spartan outdoors. It's a pleasant night, so we choose to enjoy the winter chill.u00a0Arctic has an amazing value unlimited barbecue buffet served at your table, all for '410. Don't mind their staff pointedly telling you that it's meant for a single person and sharing would not be possible.
Our culinary journey began with a tomato soup and a finely julienned, deliciously fresh, oregano-flavoured salad, along with a basket of garlic toast. Baskets of crisp, sesame-coated chicken strips arrived soon after. This was quickly followed by deep-fried, diced and deliciously masala-coated potatoes. u00a0After this, a tandoored fish and barbecued chicken arrived. It made for delicious, juicy meat.
The barbecued prawns soon made their appearance with caramelised rice. Finally, there were tiny portions of Blueberry Mousse and a sort of Cheesecake of the same flavour. Nothing to rave about but it was a nice touch. It made for a killer meal for the price and a must-try for all big-eaters.u00a0Since we aren't one of the big eaters like our dining partner, we chose to go a-la-carte instead. We began with a Provincial Lobster Bisque ('170). The dish was orange-hued and included spiced cream with chunks of lobster.
For the mains, we indulged in Arctic's signature barbecue preparation. We chose a Tuna done in Thyme Butter Sauce with a side of Char-grilled Vegetables and Parsley Potatoes ('365). The sauce was perfect, its hint of lemon adding a twist; the fish was done just enough to ensure that it could be cubed with a fork and the sides were perfect. It was a perfectly done meal, high on flavour and wholesomeness. We wish they had fillets on a platter, bones are just too complicated to enjoy the meal.
Arctic may not live up to its tagline of European seafood specialty but it does a great job in the taste department and on quantity front as well. What they need to work on is their ambience. Their food and presentation are great but they seem a misfit in the location. We hope that changes soon.
