A new cafe in Bandra seems like the perfect place for chow and caffeine

Non Veg Club Croissandwich
Set designers discussing their next project, columnists rushing through a working lunch, discussing election fever in Bengal and a lone expat wolfing down a sandwich - Bombay Coffee House, a new café in Bandra, seemed to draw in diverse personalities and professionals. Adding to the list, its owner Ketan Wathare told us, are the café's prominent clientele, students of National College, who are currently on vacation.

A glass-lined entrance that is ideal for people-gazing, rugged walls, wooden beams, and a stash of Tintin comics - BCH's pleasing interiors and a simple menu put you at ease.

The soaring temperature outside didn't permit us to pick from the lattes and cappuccinos. Instead, we ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Rs 120, plus taxes) along with Pesto and Grilled Veg Croissandwich (Rs 180). The coffee, served with condensed milk on the side, was one of the best we have had in a long time. For a coffee house, BCH does a superb job. The croissant sandwich was equally satisfying. While the croissant was light, fresh and flaky, the pesto paste and veggies made for the perfect summer sandwich. The Non Veg Club Croissandwich (Rs 220) was highly satiating with ham, fried egg and chicken stuffed between vegetables.

The Pulled Pork Roll (Rs 180), with its tender meat and a sweet and hot marinade, was a hit too. Next, we called for Spinach and Corn Quiche (Rs 120). It could have done with a little less salt. All the grub made us thirsty and we ordered Peach Iced Tea (Rs 120) that worked just fine. We skipped the mains and went straight for dessert - a Red Velvet Cake (Rs 135) and a Peanut Butter and Chocolate slab (Rs 125). The cake was good but not different from what's available at any decent cake shop. But the peanut butter offering was pure indulgence.

While we hold our verdict on the large meals, which we didn't try, we'd certainly do an encore for their great coffees, croissandwiches and relaxed vibe.
