A special 2 day Free Vaccination camp was held on 13th/14th August 2021 at PKC Hospital, Vashi for family members of Tribal People from the remote areas of Korlai, Khandala Alibaug, Revdanda and Murud who could not avail vaccination due to unavailabilty of vaccines and financial barriers.
Around 250 people got vaccinated in the camp that was scheduled for two days. Mr Rajesh Shetty was previously approached by Fr. PASCAL (Senior Parish Priest- Mary of Nazereth church Alibaug) and Fr. Joe Borges (Parish priest of Mount Carmel Church Korlai) for getting themselves vaccinated via Mr. Raja from Fr. Agnel School and were given their 2nd dose in the 2nd camp organised by Mr. Shetty. Fr. Pascal and Fr. Borges then requested Mr. Shetty to provide vaccination to the tribal people in their vicinity.
On understanding the plight of the tribal people, Mr Shetty made immediate arrangements for getting them vaccinated on a priority basis and at his own cost. On realising that there here was a lot of fear among the tribals regarding Vaccination, both Fr. Pascal and Fr. Borges alon with their team successfully convinced the tribals about the importance of vaccination.
The tribals came from extreme remote areas where transportation seemed a luxury. The places were so remote that people walked down mountains for about two hours to reach the busses arranged for them.
